Default Microsoft Word very slow

I've noticed that when I open documents in Word (Office X) there's a considerable wait - 5-10 seconds - when the document is open but I can do nothing to it. Then the spinning beach ball cursor appears for a couple of seconds and I then I can edit. If I have two documents open at once, switching between them causes the spinning cursor and a wait. It's pretty frustrating, and would be more so if I actually used this program very often. I tried turning Font Reserve off but it didn't change the problem. I'm in 10.2.4, Quicksilver G4 933, lots of RAM.

My partner in the same room has a G4 quicksilver with 10.1.5 and no such problems. I also have a Wallstreet PB with 10.2.3 and it seems faster than the Quicksilver.

Any suggestions? Reinstall Office?

It's a Microsoft program...so when it gets dirty, reinstall it. It's a common theme with their software. I find Windows has a 3 month shelf-life before it needs reinstalling.

Yeah, I looked at your subject and was thinking "and....?"

Word is slow. Reinstall when it starts to bother you.

That seems to have fixed it. Pity Microsoft sw has to suck, isn't it?

The pity is that it's inflicted on people who don't wish to use it. TextEdit works perfectly for all of my word processing needs except... you guessed it, reading m$ documents.

Do you like it more than AppleWorks? I just tried TextEdit, and it doesn't do a bad job at what it does.

I like TexEditPlus and Mariner Write much better than AppleWorks. Mariner Write can even open Word files... it's nice.
