Default Appleworks?

Can I use Appleworks on an Intel Mac?

I am a teacher and all my tests, handouts, etc. were created with Appleworks.

My G4 iBook is almost five years old. I have been thinking about a new computer, but I don't to have to stop using my Appleworks stuff.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks for your response.

I have to decide about staying with my almost 5 year old iBook or getting a new MacBook. Knowing this is helpful because it means I won't have to trash all my Appleworks stuff.

You might want to wait a month or two. A few years ago I used to buy a new Mac (desktop/laptop) almost every year, so I learned when it was the best time to buy. From what I recall, new laptops come out every May and November (give or take a month). I'm confident that a new Macbook will be released within the next 45 days. Someone please correct me if I'm far off in my thinking. Also, Apple usually does special sales in the months leading to the new school year, including free iPod and printer with purchase of an Apple computer. Well, it depends on the printer and iPod you choose... but you save, I believe, up to 100 bucks on each.

Oh, and you're a teacher... that's another 50-100 bucks you save (student/educator discount). It wouldn't hurt to bring some proof. For the last ten years I've been teacher assistant, college student, and now a teacher (kindergarten) -- the Apple Store discounts are a nice perk.

Thanks for your reply.

I was initially interested in the "white" MacBook because it had basically the same hardware as the "new" aluminum ones, but still had the firewire port. I don't care about the trackpad, with "gestures," so if they introduce new ones next month, that might knock down the price.

Yes, the educator's discounts are great, although not as high as they used to be. What is even better, is to drive to an applestore in a nearby state, where there is no sales tax to purchase a new computer!
