For the past year or so, this is what I've been telling people in private. Now that there appears to be some sputtering by both the stock and by those who defend Microsoft I think it might be high time to explain my position.

7. Dot Net initiative. The .Net framework that many believe is an example of how Microsoft can actually put together elegant and powerful architectures when it wants to, is being killed by Open Source systems that are free and almost just as powerful. Microsoft has been unable to cope with Open Source except to complain about it.

Muhahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also WGA is a pain in the lower keyboard. personally, i have had one
legal windows xp rejected by micro-theives however there is a workaround.

when it it comes to vista, wga is embedded deeper than terminal cancer.
i simply refuse to re-type a serial number anytime i change a program, a
icon, add a piece of equipment, up my memory ... etc.

one can only be sure of the very fact that drm is even more embedded.
keep it. keep everything. years ago, in this house we started switching
games from the apple/pc platforms to game machines. it has been
very succesful for us. we have multiple game machines and a library
for each such that you can play for a couple weeks and not run out
of a new game to start.

sony (riaa), and micro-trash ... keep what belongs to you. it is yours.
we will not purchase the playstation 3, or the xbox 360. due to the
anti-freedom policies of each corporation along with gigantic prices on
the games ... keep it all. keep your music, movies, computers, monitors,
stereos, games and so on.

what $59.00 is not too much for a game? try telling that to someone
who is making $5.15 in america where housing is $800-1200 per month,
medical care nonexistant, gasoline and home utilites prices are not indexed to
reasonable prices. in states such as WYOMING where the
state has certified that 1 in 10 residents go hungry, within the last 60 days.

try telling people in nations where $30-40 per month IS the income.

microsoft, windows vista may well be the windows you wish you never
wrote. any computer after january 2007 might have vista on it, it makes
it worthwhile to ask yourself ... do i really want to purchase this item?

apple does much much the same only in a quieter fashion. apple does not
back up defects like apple used to. charging $255 for a battery replacement
in a $255 ipod is just as dirty corporate policy as is "fairplay" which no other
business on earth can purchase a license.

around here our game machines, imac os9,toshiba laptop, xmradio, and
cable tv is more than enough to keep us very well entertained.

only wii has a foot in our door.

Hi applejax, really old thread.

That being said, I have to agree that Microsoft and Sony are the scum of the universe (and I am sorry, but Apple brings burning hatred to my heart as well. Please don't kill me). I am boycotting all three corporations, under no circumstances will I buy any of their products. I have decided that gaming is a waste of time, so I don't do it anymore. But if I did, I would definitely go for a Wii too.

I find Microsoft's embrace of DRM extremely tasteless (and worrying), and WGA is indeed a major pain. Since my field of work is IT, I will probably run Vista on one of my computers to see what is new (I feel obligated to have some competence when it comes to Windows), it will not be a legal copy though (remember, I don't buy Microsoft products).

I am just thankful that I can crawl back the beautiful and safe sanctuary of my real computers (where I do all my serious work), that are running GNU/Linux and *BSD. If it weren't for these systems, I would probably look around for something else to do.

cool post. i am a freeBSD fan myself. I hear you on the vista, that you
have a need to know. actually xp is decent enough except for those
pushing the high definition barrior. boycotting and civil disobediance are
the only tools that have worked post world war II. it is amazing just
how much any corporation can gain by bribes-lobby.

we keep hearing about "free markets, and free market economies" that
has to be the most biggest lie on earth. our schools fail to teach the
reall truth. in our "leave no child behind" it should be taught that all
that we are about is a lie. nice to have a paycheck, but a lie anyway
