I took one look at the screen shots and then just closed the window.
If indeed Google are working on their own operating system, you're more likely to see a Linux distribution than an entirely new operating system. Writing a new operating system from scratch is a non-trivial task, something you don't do unless you need to. Given that Google have been working their magic quite happily from Linux, I just can't see them rolling their own...

I don't think they would either, but others didn't get to see the images,... I think it's laughable myself. Just what the world needs another OS, embedded even, so no update's. :=D

When you think about Google, you don't see a company that makes any more effort than it needs to.
Writing an operating system is an inordinate amount of effort that doesn't have a commensurate return for that effort. Let's face it, there's a lot can be done Linux, or even Microsoft Windows NT for that matter, which is still used in cash machines (ATM's) up and down the world. If the rumours are true and Google do any of this stuff, I see them aggregating their various offerings and tying them together in some kind of always-on slim client. There's no doubt that in the coming months, their chat client will tie in with their email service and at some point, and maybe even pull in some loose ends with your 'Blogger account, also. A browser may even make an appearance. Who knows...
