yoper 2.2.0-6 is out and has the ntfs file system.
yoper is number 13 out of about 300 distributions and is coded in New Zealand should i remember right, it is debian with rpm packages. i have loaded this and ran it and the first versions was unforgiven if you did not preset up your partitions to be at least 3. swap root home (i think) once running, it is very good. since i am a kde fan, works for me. http://www.distrowatch.com |

Is there an apt-get app (or similar) in this distro? Like Debian's apt-get or Fedora's yum (I hope that was the correct name). Apt-get is essential!

kris, i read awhile back that there is a way to convert *rpm to *deb packaging. unfortunately i did not book mark and get back too it. a google search might pop it up. You should be able to install apt-get and use it anyway.
One of the things that has impressed be with working the *tar or *tar.gz files is that you get into the arguement of flexiblilty. *rpm, it is said makes it so the novice can do anything but is unforgiven when packaged with mistakes. Your standard unix logic is easier to add just what you want when you want given that you read a lot. Arkayn helping me to boot to the *bsd side of apple was great as i had only been in through the terminal. I, personally ran earlier Yoper and it is very good, better than Mandrake or Fedora because mandrake and fedora are too "canned" for me. I love your posts. I learn a lot. However, the given prespective is load it once and everything works and nothing ever breaks is the perfect situation for the average computer owner. To me, that leaves you totally to the whims of the packager, ie: Microsft XP and predicted evolution to "monthly payments " to keep your os running. Talked to Pop "A" down in Rawlins and even at about 80 years old he told me that he had caught on to the monthly subscription eventuality of XP (NT kernal users). I thought that was neat of an 80 year old to be so informed. Yourself and others are amazing fellow Macforans, and your posts are very great to read for the knowledge that you pass along. |

I enjoyed also reading these posts. Yes, Kris, you got the right names. Unfortuantelly, applejax, distrowatch.com only offers live, stable distros, so where it has the 3.6 version of clusterKnoppix, it does not have the 3.7 beta. The beta works just as well, for light work anyway. Do you see what i mean, there should be a www.betadistrowatch.com (this is where you poin me to a website that is just that...
)as for linux and NTFS, try linux-ntfs.sf.net, for distros which do not have it built in.
